Story behind the artwork
I drew this an hour after the 2019 Champions League final. A photo of Salah chatting in the mixed zone was posted by journalist Ken Early on twitter, his face was at a promising angle for the way I like to draw portraits. I sketched out a quick version and knew instantly there was potential for an addition, a flourish, some neat design. I talk about this process in the story behind the 'Pythagoras in Boots' listing. I kept doodling without lifting the pencil, just forcing my brain to churn something out. I knew red would have the best impact, but to show what? I just followed my scribbling and when YNWA started to come out all jagged I knew the points could replicate the crown of an Egyptian King. This type of work is my favourite, simple and rewarding.
